Army Families

Let our “Big Red” doors welcome the “Big Red 1.”

The Church of the Covenant is a welcoming, off post, congregation to the Army Families of Fort Riley.  After all, that’s our history, it’s “in our blood” you might say.  For 162 years the COTC has been both parish and chapel to many Fort Riley Families.

Sometime after his arrival in 1853, Chaplain David Clarkson, the first post chaplain, an Episcopal Priest, founded an Episcopal congregation in Junction City by providing services for the town folks in community halls and private homes.  He was soon followed by Chaplain George Henderson who, along with officers on post saw the need to build an Episcopal Church in town.  In addition to Chaplain Clarkson and Chaplain Henderson, Chaplain Charles Reynolds and Chaplain Thomas Barry served as priest-in-charge of the congregation during interim periods.

Through the years, Covenant has been home to soldiers and their families, including Gen. George S. Patton, whose is remembered in the church with a plaque on the pew in which he and his wife sat.

It is our prayer that you and your family will stop by for a visit to experience the holiness of prayer and compassion as we live into the mission of the Gospels.
